What’s Di Maria’s Next Move? Is it MLS or Argentina?
We are slowly entering the month of June. The EURO in Germany will be at the center of the football public, but summer also always brings excitement to the transfer market regarding football players.
At the end of June 2024, the contract with Benfica expires for the experienced Argentinian footballer Angel Di Maria (36). At the beginning of the calendar year, there was talk of his return to Argentina. Di Maria had an offer from his hometown club, Rosario, to play for them for a season or more at the end of his career, and it would certainly be a nice story if he ended his career where he started. However, a new offer arrived that the Argentine could hardly refuse, and he would play with two other giants of world football, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
The current leader of the MLS is doing everything to convince Di Maria to wear their shirt.
Allegedly, Di Maria has agreed to financial terms with the team from Miami, and there are still details to be agreed. There are two scenarios in circulation: Di Maria going to Miami in June or doing it at the beginning of 2025 and wearing the Rosario jersey until then. However, the extraordinary attention of the Argentinian and international public in the past few days was attracted by the alleged death threats that Angel di Maria received. The Benfica footballer wished that when his contract in Lisbon expires at the end of the season, he would return to his hometown of Rosario and finish his career there.
Still, there is a serious question as to whether this will happen at all after the death threats that arrived at the address of his family home in that city. Namely, his mother received a letter with unpleasant content, which was delivered in a bag and thrown out of the car at full speed.
Angel Di Maria (36) is currently a member of Benfica, with whom he has a contract until the summer of 2024, and this is his second time wearing the shirt of the team from Lisbon, for which he played from 2007 to 2010, after which he left for Real Madrid. After Real, Maria wore the Manchester United, PSG, and Juventus jersey, and for the Argentine national team, he made 137 appearances and scored 20 goals.
Maria started his professional career in 2006, playing for the first team of Rosario. With the Gauchos, he was the world champion in Qatar in 2022.
