domination-continues

Dinamo Zagreb – 18 titles out of the last 19 seasons! Isn’t it impressive? Dinamo Zagreb wins the domestic champion title again. This became clear after their narrow 1-0 victory over Osijek at home, with a goal from Arijan Ademi, and the direct competitor Rijeka’s 1-3 loss during their visit to Varazdin. In this way, Dinamo Zagreb accumulated 78 points, securing the top spot in the standings, while Rijeka occupies the second position with 71 points. With only two rounds remaining in the championship, the “Blues” are unreachable at the top. Interestingly, both teams will also compete for the Croatian Cup. The final will be played in two legs, with the first match scheduled for May 15 in Zagreb, followed by the return leg in Rijeka a week later. The teams will face each other once again in the final round. This marks Dinamo Zagreb’s 18th title in the last 19 seasons, with the only exception being Rijeka’s championship win in the 2016/17 season. Since then, the Zagreb giants have clinched the title eight consecutive times.

The standout player who contributed significantly to their 24th title is central forward Bruno Petković.

He has scored 11 goals so far and provided five assists. His teammate Fran Brodić also boasts 11 goals. Petković not only plays a crucial role in Dinamo’s lineup but also represents Croatia on the international stage. During the last World Cup in Qatar, it was Petković who scored the equalizing goal against Brazil in the 117th minute of added time, leading to Croatia’s victory in the penalty shootout. However, Petković is not the only Dinamo player to represent the national team. In fact, Dinamo Zagreb has been the backbone and soul of the Croatian national team over the years. During the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the club set a record for the most players from a single club in the extended squad of any team in World Cup history—14 players from Dinamo Zagreb were part of Croatia’s roster. This talent factory has produced names like Luka Modrić, Vedran Ćorluka, Zvonimir Boban, Robert Prosinečki, Dejan Lovren, Niko Kranjčar, Mateo Kovačić, and Alen Halilović, among others. But it’s only a small part of the list. Beyond the players on the field, the passionate fans of Dinamo Zagreb also leave a strong impression. With their typical Balkan fervor, they are an integral part of the team’s success. The largest and most powerful ultras group of Dinamo is known as the “Bad Blue Boys” (BBB). Founded officially on March 17, 1986, in Zagreb, the BBB members come from different areas of the city. Their mascot is a bulldog, and their official anthem is “Dinamo ja volim” (“I love Dinamo”), performed by the Croatian rock band Pips, Chips & Videoclips. During home matches at Dinamo Zagreb’s Maksimir Stadium, the Bad Blue Boys occupy the North Stand behind one of the goals.

The BBB are often involved in conflicts with fans of other teams, especially during international matches involving Dinamo.

The collaboration between the academy, youth football, and the senior team, along with the strong bond and mutual love between the club and its fans, have destined Dinamo Zagreb for success both domestically and on the international stage. Any football fan should seize the opportunity to watch a Dinamo Zagreb match at least once, as it’s highly likely that among the players on the field, future stars like Zvonimir Boban, Robert Prosinečki, Luka Modrić, Mateo Kovačić, Andrej Kramarić, Niko Kranjčar, and many others have honed their skills within the blue ranks of Zagreb.
