EURO 2024 GROUP C
Even though England is considered the “cradle of football,” the team has lacked the biggest trophies throughout history.
The “Three Lions” team won only one World Cup in 1966. While its biggest achievement in ten appearances at the European Championships was the final at the previous Old Continent championship (defeat against Italy).
On their 11th appearance, and given the form of the players, England can even hope for the championship title.
With ten appearances at the European Championships, England is among the national teams with the most appearances in the final tournaments for the best selections on the Old Continent. The English debuted in 1968, at the third EURO championship, when they played in Italy. England is placed in Group C with Serbia, Slovenia, and Denmark at this European Championship.
The Danish football team finished 10th in the European Championship after winning first place in qualifying Group H.
Denmark’s greatest success was at the Euros in 1992, when it received a special invitation after the suspension of Yugoslavia. In the final, they defeated Germany and won the only title of European champion.
They were in the spotlight in the last championship after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field against Finland. Everyone was in shock then, but everything ended well.
Led by Kasper Hjulmand, Denmark reached the semi-finals, but England emerged victorious after extra time.
After a 24-year absence, Serbia qualified for the EURO, but public expectations for the Eagles are low.
After qualifying in the so-called “Balkan group,” Serbia had to catch up against Bulgaria in the last round on their home field. Serbian fans have been disappointed since the last World Cup in Qatar when they won only one point in the group with Cameroon, Brazil, and Switzerland and again finished the competition as in the World Cup in 2018.
Serbia (Yugoslavia) rarely participated in the European Championships, unlike the World Cup.
At the beginning of this continental competition, they played in the final twice. First, in 1960, they were defeated by the USSR, and then, after a huge drama and a repeated match, they were again defeated by Italy in 1968.Â
The next two championships were debacles, especially the 1984 championship in which today’s selector and then a teenager, Dragan Stojkovic, participated. The last championship in which Serbia took part, then under the name SR Yugoslavia, in 2000, brought placement in the quarterfinals after a huge thriller in the competition’s group stage.
The Slovenian football team is one of the few that have appeared at the European Championship only once, in 2000.Â
Even though they were drawn in a very difficult group (England, Denmark, Serbia), the Dragons can hope for a good result in Germany. The performances from the qualifiers encouraged the fans of the Slovenian national team, which reached the final tournament with seven wins from ten games played – with 20 goals scored.Â
On their first appearance at the Euros, Slovenia was drawn in Group C, where they played against Spain, Norway, and the national team of Yugoslavia.Â
They ended that competition in last place and without a win. Although they led 3:0 against Yugoslavia, the match ended in a 3:3 draw.
