Only 24 hours after Olivier Giroud announced that this season will be his last in the Milan jersey, the French striker was introduced to his new club. As he admitted – he continues his career in the MLS league, in the jersey of Los Angeles!
The club from California was founded almost ten years ago, but since competing in the MLS league, it has serious plans. Ugo Lloris has been among the goalposts of Los Angeles since the summer, and today he got company from the national team. Olivier Giroud signed a contract until December 2025, with the option of extending the cooperation for another year.
Giroud started his career in Grenoble, but he appeared on the football sky when he arrived in Montpellier. He won the French league with this team and set his career on fire. Then he went to London and defended the colors of Arsenal. With Arsenal, he won three FA Cups and three Community Shield trophies. After 6 years spent in Arsenal, he made a surprising transfer to the city rivals Chelsea. But as it turned out it was the right move to do. With Chelsea, he won the FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Europa League. In 2021 he decided to change the league and moved to Italy in Milan. He was one of the main reasons why this team won the title in the 2021-2022 season.
He was also part of one of the best generations in the national team of France.
He was the world champion in 2018 when France won the most-wanted trophy in the World Cup in Russia. He played for the national team at the EURO 2016 in France, but they were defeated in the final by Portugal. With France, he won the UEFA Nations League second season beating Spain in the final.
The French striker played 130 games in Milan, scoring 48 goals and providing 20 assists.
He brought the Rossoneri the Serie A title in 2022 after a decade of waiting, and during the last three seasons, he was one of the best players in Stefano Pioli’s squad. Since he reached his late playing years – 37, it was realistic that at the end of his career, he would look for some challenge outside of Europe. It was rumored that Saudi Arabia might be his destination, but for some reason, he still decided on America. Marco Reus should follow in his footsteps soon.
Giroud will be remembered as one of the last classic attackers who can play and score with every part of his body.
He is a real danger whenever he is close to the opposite goal. He has an incredibly long-range shot, and he is very dominant and dangerous when it comes to playing with his head. He never showed weakness even when playing under huge pressure and in high-stakes matches and he is someone who gave a true example to young footballers on how professionals should behave on and off the field.
