Inter of Miami or Messi and Friends?
One World Cup, two Copa Americas, four Champions Leagues, three Club World Cups, ten titles in Spain, two titles in France, three European Super Cups, seven Copas del Rey, eight Spanish Super Cups, one French Super Cup, one Mundialito, a gold medal at the Olympic Games and one CONCACAF League Cup.Â
Lionel Messi has won 44 trophies during his 18-year playing career.
According to the bookmaker’s forecasts, Inter Miami was the biggest favorite to win the MLS. Not only because the team is full of stars besides Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Federico Redondo, and Oscar Ustari. However, Atlanta caused a big surprise and skillfully eliminated last year’s MLS Cup winner Inter Miami. In the third game of the Eastern Conference playoff quarterfinals, Atlanta defeated the first seed Inter Miami 3:2. She thus orchestrated a shocking elimination for Lionel Messi and the team owned by David Beckham.Â
So now everyone asks whether Messi and his friends can lead this team to another trophy or it’s time for retirement.Â
On the contrary, in the USA, football is more than just kicking a ball on a green field. Much of it goes into marketing, the “discipline” in which Inter Miami has exploded since Lionel Messi arrived at the club. Several teammates have followed the Argentine, including Luis Suarez, who extended his contract with Inter Miami until the end of 2025.Â
And, next season, Messi, Busquets, Alba, and Suarez will be in the company of another former Barcelona player, Javier Mascherano, as their coach. Mascherano signed a contract with Inter until the end of 2027, joining Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez, former Barcelona teammates.Â
Interestingly, all of them, practically half of the team, were starters in the Champions League final against Juventus in 2015 in Berlin, when the Catalan club was last time European champion.Â
The Argentine will replace the older and much more experienced Gerardo Martin on the American club’s bench, fired after being eliminated prematurely in the knockout stage of the domestic championship.
The signing of Luis Suarez last winter proved to be a huge success for the Miami club.
Messi received adequate and well-known company in attack, and Inter cruised through the Eastern Conference and entered the MLS playoffs in first place. This winter, another good Messi friend will join them. Neymar’s arrival at Inter would not be surprising, considering he is a frequent visitor to Miami and its nightlife and sporting events such as basketball, tennis, and baseball.Â
Even David Beckham joked in March this year by posting a photo of himself with his wife, Victoria and the Brazilian footballer, with the comment: “Welcome to Miami, my friend (just for dinner).”Â
The stories about Inter Miami’s alleged desire to bring Neymar are further reinforced by the news that the Brazilian has purchased land in Bal Harbor, Florida, for 26,000,000 euros.
