Is Kompany a winner or a flop?

Is Kompany a winner or a flop?

Is Kompany a winner or a flop?

The biggest stars follow him. They like his ideas and football philosophy.

The mood in the dressing room is very good. And the bosses are satisfied. The fans are delighted with the offensive game and bloodthirsty approach, like the one against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League when Bayern Munich scored nine goals.

Defensiveness is still far from the level needed for big things, and when talking about minuses, the most common complaint is insufficient rotation. For example, one of the most expensive reinforcements – Joao Palhinha hardly gets a chance.

This is roughly how they look at Vincent Kompany in Bayern and Germany.

After half a season on the bench of the famous club, the German media made a comparison with two of his predecessors – Tomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann

At first glance, many will think that Kompany is far more successful than both. But it’s not quite like that.

For example, Nagelsmann recorded eight victories in the opening nine games, with 43 goals scored and only five conceded. Kompany‘s squad was primarily defensively weaker in the same period – twice as many goals were conceded.

At the same time, the team of the current coach of Germany scored an average of 2.8 goals per match, while this average was 2.2 under Kompany.

What the Belgian strives for – and it is visible – is absolute control through possession. Hence, for the first time since Pep Guardiola, Bayern have the ball at their feet an average of 65 percent of the time.

The passing success rate of Kompany’s team of 91% is also the best in the competition between the two colleagues, and

What is particularly impressive is the ratio of shots compared to the rival in the last three games: 62:22!

The fact that Bayern players run four kilometres more under the new coach than in the era of Julian Nagelsmann and Tomas Tuhel is not negligible either.

What is not promising about Vincent Kompany is the important derby matches in which Bayern underperforms, often without a win.

These are the three most difficult tests so far: Leverkusen’s (1:1) in the league and (1:0) defeat in the DFB Pokal, Aston Villa’s (0:1) defeat in the UCL, Borussia Dortmund’s (1:1) in the league, and the heavy defeat in the Champions League against Barcelona away (4:1). After the representative break, there are two more. First Stuttgart, then Barcelona.

Recently, this team suffered another incredible defeat in the Champions League against Feyenoord in Rotterdam, where even though Bayern had 30 shots on goal, Feyenoord won 3:0.

Kompany’s team is dominant in the Bundesliga, they are in first place, and it seems that they don’t have any real competitors in Germany this season.

However, in the Champions League, they aren’t as successful as in 15th place.

Kompany still has a lot of work to do in Bayern, but at the end of the season, he can surely become a hero, let’s say, if he leads this team to the Champions League trophy.
