Overscheduling and Rising Injuries Among Star Athletes

The number of injuries increases yearly and is linked to an increasing number of games.

The report states that a “continuation of the upward trajectory” can be expected. The report’s publication comes after the players’ union and the European leagues lodged a formal complaint with the European Union against the International Football Federation (FIFA) over the increasing number of matches. The report states that there is a “worrying trend” with players under the age of 21 suffering an increasing number of serious injuries.

Many of the world’s football stars are protesting more and more loudly about the overcrowded schedule of matches in the season.

The number of matches is constantly increasing, and the players have decided to express their dissatisfaction.

One of the harshest critics is Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

Not long after the statement, the Spaniard suffered a serious injury that kept him out of the field for the rest of the season, and his message only became louder. He was joined by his teammate Dani Carvajal (who also got seriously injured in the meantime) and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker (also currently injured).

Football players are particularly critical of the new format of the Champions League, which replaced the group stage with a league system this season, which increased the number of matches in the early stages. The last league matches will be played until the end of January. In addition, they criticized the new format of the World Club Championship, which will have as many as 32 teams starting next year.

World Union FIFPro is expected to file a complaint with the European Commission over these changes.

In many elements of business, both UEFA and FIFA not only follow changes and trends but often lead the way with innovative solutions, changing the competitive environment, which is in constant motion in which attractive and lucrative opportunities are more visible to “more players,” and the resources to capitalize on these opportunities are increasingly available.

Football is simply a magnet, not in the classical sense, but in a metaphorical sense, and attracts and binds…

In all markets, supply and choice are increasing exponentially, but what has also increased exponentially is the rate at which innovation is adopted. Supporters’ frames of reference are shifting in all aspects of football and raising the bar on what is good enough.

Maybe this season of the Champions League and the upcoming World Club Championship in football is a certain kind of test, not to mention the research, on how much the absorptive power of football fans to “consume” such a large amount of experiences and feelings that football brings with it?

They may want to check whether football, like a game, is at a breaking point. “Breakthrough” in the sense of how many and how the players can endure so many games without a drop in the standard of form and quality of football of the club – the team for which he plays?

The new format of the Champions League (similar changes are made in the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League) and the announced format of the World Club Championship have “illuminated” and made more visible certain problems which are “simmering” in the world of football:

Can the players withstand such several games, playing at a high level, considering both club and national team obligations and the consequences of such a rhythm on their health?
