Paul Pogba’s Next Move: Will the 2018 World Champion Reignite His Career?
Last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) significantly reduced Paul pogba’s suspension (from four years to 18 months)
Allowing the former French national team member to return to training in January, i.e., to start competitive matches in March. The chances of Pogba continuing his career at Juventus are almost nonexistent; the two sides are currently negotiating the terms under which the contract will be terminated, after which the 2018 world champion would be free to choose a new environment. In an interview with L’Equip, Pogba said he remains under contract with Juve, rejecting Patrice Evra’s claims that he could move to Olympique Marseille.
However, he did not definitively close the door to a possible return to French football.
Paul Pogba has conducted several interviews with the leading sports media in Europe. It is understandable, considering that his suspension due to doping has been significantly reduced and that the moment he can play again will come soon.
The Frenchman will return to competitive football in March, but it is still uncertain in which club.
The contract with Juventus is valid until the summer of 2026. However, current news states that the Turinese are trying to terminate the contract so they do not have to pay the 31-year-old midfielder 3,500,000 euros for just four months of football this season.
During the suspension, Pogba received 2,000 euros per month.
Still, his official salary at Juventus is one of the highest in Serie A (8,000,000 euros fixed plus a potential 2,000,000 through bonuses), so in the event of his return to the field, the Old Lady would have to be guided by the figures from the valid contract.
However, the world champion with France in 2018 is ready to restrict the contract. “I am ready to give up part of my salary just to play for Juventus again. I have only one wish – to play football,” Pogba told Gazeta. Although he will compete for the team again in March, Tiago Mota will make the final decision on the status of the experienced midfielder. Before officially being suspended in February this year, Pogba was not playing at the level expected of one of the highest-paid players in the Italian league. His games were far weaker than his first term as a Juventus player when four titles were won and the Champions League final was played.
Pogba left a remarkable mark during his first stay in Turin at the beginning of the last decade.
However, since returning to “Allianz” after several years at Manchester United, he has been unable to choose due to health problems.
He had already missed an entire season due to injury, and just as he was about to start a new one, a doping scandal occurred.
Speculations have started since it was confirmed that his suspension was reduced and that he will return to football next year.
It is mostly stated that there will be a mutually terminated contract with the “old lady” and that he will continue his career in MLS.
