The Revolving Door; Premier League Manager Changes

The Premier League season may have just ended, but the anticipation and buzz for the upcoming season, the best football league in the world, is already palpable.

As England gears up for EURO 2024 in Germany, clubs are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to secure top-notch managers and players before the EURO and friendly matches kick off, ensuring they start the 2024/25 season on a high note.

Jurgen Klopp said goodbye to Liverpool. A great era at “Anfield” is over. And a new one will start next season—with a new manager. As announced in the previous period, Liverpool will be led by Arne Slott next season. The Former Feyenoord manager will have to fill Klopp’s shoes, which won’t be easy, knowing that the Reds fans demand only the best and trophies every season.

Liverpool isn’t the only team from England’s “Big 6” that will change managers.

Chelsea’s painful season is over; Mauricio Pochettino left Stamford Bridge a few days ago after only one season spent on the Blues bench. The leading people of the club, led by Todd Boehly, decided to terminate the contract with the Argentinian expert and start looking for a new coach. After an extensive search and interviews with several candidates, they have found him – Enzo Maresca is about to sign for the Blues. Enzo Maresca is a former assistant manager of Pep Guardiola. In the last season, he led Leicester City to the championship trophy and promotion to the Premier League.

The Premier League trusts Spanish professionals.

In the best championship, there will be another one on the line since the return of Julen Lopetegui to English football has been made official with the information that the 57-year-old strategist has been appointed as the new West Ham coach. This is Lopetegui’s second engagement in England, where he previously worked as a Wolverhampton coach and stayed on the Wolves bench for less than a year, as he arrived in November 2022 and was replaced in August 2023. However, everything he did with Wolves, as well as earlier in his career, was enough for the leaders of the London club to trust him and promote him instead of David Moyes, whose five-year term ended earlier this month.

The news of De Zerbi’s departure from Brighton came as a shock to many.

‘I am very sad to leave Brighton, but I am also very proud of my players and coaching staff and all that we have achieved over the past two historic seasons,’ De Zerbi said. The Italian took over Brighton from Graham Potter on September 18, 2022, who then moved to Chelsea. Under De Zerbi‘s leadership, the Seagulls played 88 games and finished the 2022/23 season in sixth place, a record ranking in the English elite. This season, he led the team among the best 16 teams of the Europa League. De Zerbi‘s departure marks the end of an era, and now Potter is the frontrunner to take over the reins at Brighton for the next season.

Of course, some managers do their jobs so well that the teams do everything to keep them.

One of them is Unai Emery, who signed a new contract with Aston Villa until 2029. Aston Villa secured participation in the Champions League for the first time in its history, and the club from Birmingham laid the foundation at the very end of the season, not only for the next season but also for the club’s future. This long-term commitment to Emery reflects the club’s confidence in his leadership and their aspirations for continued success.
